A female citizen of the Republic of the Philippines and the owner of a licensed employment agency was pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to charges under the Employment Agencies Order 2004.
IMELDA TAOC RIVA was pleaded guilty to operating an employment agency around February 2024 without a valid license. Investigations by the Employment Agency Division, Labour Department found that Imelda was arranging to bring in foreign workers and charging a fee of $350 Brunei Dollars, as well as issuing receipts using her company name around February 2024. For the charge, Imelda was sentenced to a fine of $1,000 Brunei Dollars. In default, she will be sentenced to one month imprisonment for the offence committed.
Meanwhile, CHUA ING SIAH, a local citizen who is also the owner of a licensed employment agency namely TTSG Employment Agency was pleaded guilty to lending his employment agency license to Imelda around March 2024. Investigations found that the owner of TTSG Employment Agency allowed Imelda to recruit and submit employee applications for a fee of $400 Brunei Dollars for each approved case around March 2024, despite knowing that Imelda was not licensed. For the charge, the owner of TTSG Employment Agency was sentenced to a fine of $2,000 Brunei Dollars. In default, he will be sentenced to two months imprisonment for the offence committed.
